Tips for Cycling

Be seen. You must have a rear reflector and working lights at night. Consider wearing bright or reflective clothing.

Be Confident. Cycle well out from the kerb or parked cars to be seen and to avoid being hit by car doors.

Be Considerate to other road users.

Be Safe. Make sure you bike is safe to ride (a local cycle shope can give it a safety check)

In bad weather take extra care to brake smoothly and in plenty of time. Corner gently and try to avoid metal cover and road markings as they can be slippery when wet.

Be comfortable. Adjust your handlebars and saddle to improve efficiency and comfort.

You must obey road traffic laws at all times.

Wear a helmet. Get specialist advice on fit and quality.

Give lorries space and be awear that large vehicles have large blind sports.

Potholes never swerve suddenly to avoid a pothole, instead lift yourself off the saddle and ride over it.

Lock your cycle to something inmovable and solid when you park.
