Harlow Heritage - Hearts & Butterflies
Harvey Shopping Centre, Town Centre
Saturday 21th February 2015
This month, The Harvey Centre is getting arty with a series of free workshops as part of its Kids Club programme.
To celebrate February half term, the centre is working with local artist Sarah Bracey to create a permanent piece of artwork. A free workshop, led by the artist, will take place on Saturday 21 February (12pm to 4pm). Shoppers of all ages will be able to take part and create mosaic designs with the theme of 'Moths and Butterflies' - using iconic Harlow images based on the local environment, such as parks or architecture.
Elements of the designs created by the public during the workshop will be used by the artist in her creation of a permanent piece of artwork - to be displayed in the centre in spring.
Sarah Bracey said: "Moths and butterflies are a huge part of Harlow's history, as reflected in the names of the pubs, such as The Garden Tiger or The Essex Skipper, that were built as part of the new town. The artwork will also reflect Harlow's contrast of green spaces, urban environment and numerous roundabouts
We wanted to make sure that the public, young and old, could be part of this artwork and the workshop on the 21 February will give them a chance to do just that. Make sure you join us!"
Both events are part of The Harvey Centre's Kids Club, meaning families can sign up to receive a free welcome pack and goody bag and be the first to hear about upcoming events and offers.
